The Meridian Hotel represents a new chapter in luxury hospitality for Shanghai—a space where East meets West, where tradition informs contemporary design, and where every guest discovers their own sense of arrival.
Our design draws inspiration from the hotel's location on the historic Bund, weaving together references to Shanghai's Art Deco heritage with contemporary Chinese aesthetics. The result is a space that feels both timeless and distinctly of its place.
From the soaring lobby with its dramatic double-height windows overlooking the Huangpu River, to the intimate guest rooms where custom furniture and curated artwork create personal sanctuaries, every space has been designed to surprise and delight.
We selected materials that speak to both luxury and longevity: Calacatta marble from Italy, warm oak paneling, hand-tufted silk carpets, and brushed brass accents. Each material was chosen not only for its beauty but for how it would age and develop character over time.
Working with artisans in Denmark and Italy, we developed a collection of custom furniture pieces designed specifically for the hotel. From the sculptural lobby sofas to the hand-finished guest room desks, each piece contributes to the hotel's unique identity.
The hotel's art program features works by both established and emerging Chinese artists, curated to create moments of discovery throughout the property. A signature installation by artist Zhang Huan anchors the main lobby.
