Concept

Inspired by the Thai word Tarra, meaning water, the design transforms the fluidity, movement, and reflective qualities of water into a unifying spatial narrative. Rather than relying on conventional Thai decorative motifs, the project reinterprets cultural identity through contemporary forms, layered textures, immersive lighting, and custom artistic installations.

The two-level destination unfolds as two distinct expressions of the same concept. At Tarra, flowing architectural ceilings, a cascading water feature, and an expansive water-inspired mosaic create a warm and dynamic dining atmosphere. Below, Sura offers a more intimate interpretation, where a constellation of suspended blue glass droplets, dramatic lighting, and large-scale Thai-inspired metal-thread artworks evoke the mystery and depth of an underwater world.

Together, the spaces establish a continuous dialogue between tradition and modernity, movement and stillness, creating a multisensory experience that extends beyond dining into art, atmosphere, and discovery.

Design Approach

Translating Water into Architectural Form

Water becomes the central design language, expressed through movement, rhythm, and fluid geometry. At Tarra, sweeping ceiling forms echo the natural movement of currents and ripples, while cascading water and a large-scale mosaic wall introduce texture, reflection, and visual depth. The interplay of warm lighting, curved surfaces, and layered materials creates an environment that feels organic, immersive, and continuously in motion.

Creating Two Distinct Atmospheric Experiences

The project establishes a deliberate contrast between the two levels while maintaining a cohesive design identity. Tarra embraces warmth, openness, and fluid movement, combining sculptural ceiling elements with richly layered finishes and contemporary hospitality design. In contrast, Sura transforms the water concept into a darker, more intimate environment. An expansive installation of suspended blue glass droplets forms a luminous, star-like canopy above the lounge, complemented by deep teal accents, dramatic lighting, and plush seating. The transition between the two spaces becomes a journey from the energy of flowing water to the quiet mystery of its depths.

Reinterpreting Thai Heritage Through Art and Craftsmanship

Rather than reproducing traditional Thai ornamentation, the design celebrates cultural heritage through contemporary artistic expression and bespoke craftsmanship. At Sura, large-scale Thai-inspired metal-thread artworks reinterpret traditional imagery through intricate layering and metallic textures, creating distinctive visual moments throughout the space. At Tarra, the water-inspired mosaic, sculptural ceiling detailing, and carefully coordinated materials extend this approach, allowing art and craftsmanship to become integral parts of the architecture. Together, these elements establish a recognizable identity rooted in Thai culture while remaining distinctly contemporary.
